Eimert Fossen (Voorburg, 1997) is an autonomous material designer who believes in natural solutions for contemporary problems. Inspired by natural systems, he explores sustainable design through material research. Exploring new applications of natural materials he bridges the gap between traditional knowledge and modern society.
The shapes and aesthetics of nature have always fascinated him. As a child, he loved drawing leaves and geometric flower patterns—structured yet wild, like a form of organized chaos. Later, in the academy, he deepened this fascination through projects on natural aesthetics, the golden ratio and material research, diving deep in biobased solutions for modern times.
Beyond its beauty, nature is brilliant in problem-solving, constantly repairing and balancing itself. It can be cruel but always prevails. Indigenous tribes exemplify a harmonious way of living with nature—something modern society has lost. Today, people are dependent on artificial conveniences, forgetting that they, too, are part of nature despite their moulded and comfortable surroundings.
This philosophy shapes his approach to design. He values efficiency, sustainability, and connection—creating not for luxury or excess, but to help people reconnect with nature and create symbiosis. Looking back to traditional ways of living, he seeks to innovate through tradition.
